Oil Sands, Greenhouse Gases, and US Oil Supply: Getting the Numbers Right
September 7, 2010
Evolving policy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions poses a new challenge for all sources of hydrocarbon supply, but particularly for the oil sands due to their higher-than-average GHG intensity. How does the carbon intensity of oil sands compare to other sources of US oil supply? What are the potential implications of life-cycle–based regulation on petroleum fuels, including those produced from oil sands?

Tighter Supply and Demand Fundamentals Support Crude Oil Prices in 2011
August 31, 2010

Surge in Demand Increases Challenges for China's Natural Gas Sector
August 23, 2010
China's natural gas demand continues to rise rapidly, driven by residential and industrial users. Gas supply is still a constraint, and the government finally announced an increase in end-user prices, partly to encourage supply. The increase in residential demand has also made the need for additional peak shaving and storage capacity more urgent.
